In a world where 3D games with high-end graphics dominate the market, it seems counter intuitive to go to a grassroots 2D game. Then again, when you're looking for a game that is easy to learn, competitive and requires real skill; where you don't have to grind your way to success or schedule the game in your every day life doings, a 2D game may be just what you're looking for.

DSB can be played from nearly any computer, and is for both hardcore, as well as casual gamers. This game will not compare graphically to more modern games, but that is exactly the point. The focus is more on skill based game play, and community, rather than flashy graphics or gimmicks.

You don't need to invest hours of your life leveling, or hundreds of dollars upgrading your computer with the latest and greatest hardware. The type of skill required for this game is unique in a league of its own. There is no grinding, and always something new to do--from the standard game, to events such as capture the flag, racing, dueling, league play, and much, much more! If you can get past the dated graphics, you will find an ever expanding universe with something for everyone. Whether you want to play for 5 minutes or 5 days, Death Star Battle has what you are looking for.

As you may have noticed the zone is up and running again, but with a minimum of bots and not connected to the billing. The billing is the name server that stores all the profile information across different zones. It happens quite often that this server has a hickup but usually we can reconnect quite fast. For some reason though it is currently rejecting the DSB server IP. We are working with the billing mods and the owner of the billing server to get it sorted out asap. We will trying some new things later today, so there might be some server resets again. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The reason that we have a minimum of bots at the moment is that many of the newer bots rely on player names for identification, and since anyone can log in with any nick right now we had to disable these bots.

There have been some rumours that this is the end of DSB, but we can be very conclusive about that: it is not!

About 24 hours ago there were some issues with the billing server (where all the names are stored). This affected all zones that were connected to it, but especially DSB for some reason. It seems that the billing kept sending a message every 2 minutes that it was back online, which made our zone recycle in order to reconnect, but still failed to connect. Even after the billing problems for other zones were long gone, we are still unable to connect to the billing or to stop the repetitive recycling. We keep trying to find the issue that is causing this but we cannot do it without the help of people who have access to the billing server, so it is a matter of getting in touch with them and sorting things out. This month we have decided to go back in time to the ancient years of the previous decade!
Some of you may remember the rating bot which was used between 2003-2007; it rewarded the top 3 players every 15 minutes with random prizes. This bot will be revived for this theme.
In addition, we will also include the infamous King of the Hill DSB theme. Become the king of the hill, and win a random prize! If you die, you can still climb back to the hill by killing 2 "kings".

Wait..... there is more! Since you get the chance to win random prizes in so many ways, we have disabled the buying of normal prizes. Instead you may buy 2 new features. You can see them when sending !buy to DSB-BOT:

On a personal note I'd like to thank everyone for helping to make this league as fun as possible. Countless individuals contributed to this league on all levels, from kindling the first sparks of the idea, to the many hours of bot and settings testing, to the organizing and captaining of squads. Today we implemented several new features and updates on older features on DSB-BOT. The maximum prize points you can carry in cash is now 1000 instead of 600, and the costs of the !prizes has changed. More details on this and the other changes with regard to earning points can be found here.

A completely new feature is that you can now challenge people to a duel in pub for prize points! The points you challenge someone for must be available in your, and your opponents, banks and the DSB-BOT will take a 5% fee of the winnings. Keep in mind that if you accept a duel you will lose any prizes you may have at that time! More detail on the command specifics can also be found here.

The BABL semi-finals are over! Red Cawks defeated Alleycatz in two games, while Port Llast vanquished Hold Bones in overtime in game three of their best of three game series! Overtime results:

The Draft League signups have been closed. 91 people signed up for the league. The amount of players is very low. Therefore we have to make the Draft League a Tourney like 6vs6 league was. There will be 23 players in 3 teams and one team has to survive with 22 unless we find one player more to sign up.
The format will be same as in the 6vs6 league. Every team will face each other once. The second round will be 1vs4 and 2vs3 games. After this the top two teams proceed to finals. You gain 3 points from a win, 0 points from loss and -1 from forfeit. The even teams rule from DSBL will be used in this league. Also we will have the new lag limits used.
The following persons have been selected as the captains for the teams of Draft League(Tourney).

The captains can pick a name for their teams. Please do not choose DSB League squad names or possibly offensive names. Please inform the names to Beer Hunter in the next couple days via ?message in game.
The captains will pick the players later once the ratings of the players have been done by the selected group of people. Information about the drafting situation will be given later.
Due to unfortunate delays, we need to move the beginning of the Draft Tourney by one week. The games are supposed to begin on 26th July unless more problems occur. -Beer Hunter

When I noticed that DSB.com was operational again, a quote of one of DSB’s most prominent players came to mind: “well well well”! Work on this fancy new website has been in progress for the past year, and even though it is still continuously being improved, you will find that it has integration with the game and a wealth of statistics. The statistics include who won the matches in pub, but also which squads are most active and who has most kills! I will not attempt to do full acknowledgements to all the people that helped DSB.com get where it is, as it will make this news post way too long, but a big thank-you is well in place for Rasher. Not only did he buy and maintain a server for the new DSB.com, he also developed most of the website itself. Expect regular news posts from me from now on!

On Wednesday, 16 April 2008, at 0200GMT the DSB server will go offline. The server will go offline for about four hours (give or take). Therefore, it should be back online at around 0600GMT. The reason for the server temporarily being taken offline is that it needs to undergo necessary maintenance work. To whom it may concern, Some might know what it takes to create a functional and effective website, and some might not. The basic concept consists of creating both a front end (i.e. a template for how the website will look), and a back end (i.e. the code that makes the site functional). At this point www.deathstarbattle.com has a new template; however, the code or, “backend” has yet to meet completion. Irrespective, the new template will find its new home on deathstarbattle’s domain before the end of the day.
